<![CDATA[ Gamesradar+ ]]> https://www.gamesradar.com Wed, 22 May 2024 08:27:47 +0000 en <![CDATA[ Meet the new Ultimate She-Hulk, Ultimate Sinister Six, and more in Marvel's August Ultimate Universe solicitations ]]> Marvel's new Ultimate Universe is rapidly filling out the ranks of its new versions of classic Marvel characters, and with the release of advance solicitations for August's Ultimate Universe titles, several more prominent heroes and villains are popping up.

In August 14's Ultimates #3 starts bringing in more characters to the new Ultimates team (the Ultimate Universe's equivalent of the Avengers) with the addition of She-Hulk, who has her own army of Hulks at her disposal. But with the main Ultimate Hulk serving as one of the villainous Maker's chief lieutenants, that might mean big trouble for the Ultimates.

Here's the official solicit text and cover:

"The Ultimates search for a means of destroying the Maker’s most powerful pawn, the Hulk! And in the process they uncover an army of Hulks hidden away from the world… with She-Hulk at the helm!"

Then, in August 21's Ultimate Spider-Man #8, the new Ultimate Universe's flagship hero will go up against the new Ultimate Sinister Six, led by Kingpin. While we don't know who's on the Ultimate Sinister Six just yet, the cover shows someone in Iron Man armor, and the solicitation text also mentions Ultimate Doc Ock.

Check out the official solicit text and cover:

"Kingpin gathers a team to deal with his masked-vigilante problem… But a group of super villains isn’t the only challenge Spider-Man will face! Meanwhile, Green Goblin joins forces with…Doc Ock?"

Meanwhile, the solicitation text for August 28's Ultimate X-Men #6 is teasing the final member of the new Ultimate X-Men with the conclusion of the title's first arc, though it's still not been revealed who it is. That's fine though, because so far we've actually only met two X-Men, Armor and Maystorm.

Here's the official solicitation and cover:

"Armor, Maystorm and the rest of the team hunt down the mysterious shadow! But is this group of scrappy teens prepared to face true darkness? And don’t miss the reveal of the final member of the group on the last page!"

And finally, in August 7's Ultimate Black Panther #7, Marvel isn't teasing a new Ultimate character, but instead a new resource of power for Ra and Khonshu, seemingly akin to Wakanda's vaunted Vibranium, as the pair set forth to invade Wakanda itself.

Here's the solicitation text and cover:

"While T’Challa has sought to grow his power, so too have the forces of Moon Knight… And with access to a unique new resource, Ra and Khonshu are stronger than ever! How will Wakanda stand in its resistance against the kings of the Upper and Lower Kingdoms? And is T’Challa prepared to bear the consequences of tapping into such dangerous wells of power?"

The new Ultimates line initially launched with Ultimate Spider-Man, which was followed by Ultimate Black Panther, and then Ultimate X-Men. Ultimates #1 rounds out the current line, launching on June 5.

<![CDATA[ Wolverine takes on Deadpool, dinosaurs, and more in his new red band comic from superstar creators Jonathan Hickman and Greg Capullo ]]> As suspected, fan favorite artist Greg Capullo is indeed jumping back into Marvel Comics interiors with a Wolverine story written by none other than superstar writer Jonathan Hickman which celebrates Wolverine's 50th anniversary.

And what's more, the five-issue limited series, titled Wolverine: Revenge, will also release with a special red band edition (a la Marvel's current Blood Hunt limited series) with extra pages that add additional "elevated violence" - meaning readers will get to see Wolverine really cut loose.

Capullo previously teased an upcoming Wolverine comic with some art that seemingly inadvertently revealed that it was intended for a Wolverine story due to notes in the margins. Recently, a new Wolverine ongoing title by writer Saladin Ahmed and artist Martín Cóccolo was announced, throwing readers slightly off the scent of where Capullo's Wolverine would appear, but now, it's all been revealed.

In Wolverine: Revenge, Wolverine will take on a whole slew of powerful foes in knockdown, dragout fights including Omega Red, Deadpool, and of course, Sabretooth. Here's an early look at some interior pages in which Wolverine fights some dinosaurs:

"I've finally returned home to Marvel, and I’m ready to raise some Hell. And, who better to do that with than the Hitman Hickman?" Capullo tells Polygon, which broke the announcement. "To celebrate, Marvel has removed the fences and let us off our leash so that we can bring the most vicious and punishing Wolverine story possible to the fans this summer. I hope they're prepared."

Capullo made his name at Marvel on titles like Quasar and X-Force before becoming the long time artist of Spawn at Image Comics. From there, he went to DC where he drew a career-defining run on Batman alongside writer Scott Snyder. Now, he's been back at Marvel doing covers for some time, but Wolverine: Revenge will mark Capullo's first Marvel interior art in decades.

"Well, obviously it's such a privilege to get to work with a legend like Greg," states writer Jonathan Hickman. "When we first talked about the project, our number one concern was taking the readers on a high-octane, no-hold-barred Wolverine story that was a proper celebration of both the character and Greg returning to Marvel. And like he said, the bosses cut us loose and the result is an absolutely wild book. Honestly can't wait for everyone to get to check it out."

Wolverine: Revenge #1 goes on sale August 21 with a cover by Capullo himself, seen above.

<![CDATA[ "Superman is my number one": My Adventures with Superman showrunner opens up about her love of the Man of Steel and writing Superman's new comic ]]> My Adventures with Superman is about to enter its second season streaming on Max and airing on Cartoon Network's Toonami, and to bridge the gap with the first season, DC is publishing a tie-in comic written by the showrunner of the animated series, Josie Campbell, with art by Pedro Collar and colorist Nick Filardi, as seen below.

And having read My Adventures with Superman #1, releasing on June 4, I can confirm that it's just as delightfully humorous, kind, and exciting as the show. I was therefore more than game to speak with showrunner and comic writer Josie Campbell when the opportunity arose.

We get into the comic's larger place in the context of the show, including whether it's required reading before season two, as well as Campbells' larger philosophy for adapting characters from the DC Universe to the animated series. And yes, I even ask the Supergirl question.

Newsarama: Josie, thanks so much for talking to me and congratulations on My Adventures with Superman. It's such a wonderful show. It has totally turned my house into a Superman household.

Josie Campbell: Hey, thanks for watching!

It put my roommate on a massive Superman kick, which I love because I love Superman. And I think it's obvious from the show and the comic that you do too.

Superman is my number one. My first two comics were Superman and Wonder Woman. It was during the Death of Superman arc, so I really came into it hot, and I was like "Oh man, I love Superman!" I love all the 'Reign of the Supermen' characters too. I was just totally enthralled from day one.

We're talking about the My Adventures with Superman comic today, so I want to ask you, how did the idea to do the comic bridging the gap between seasons one and two come about? How did the whole thing get started?

We had finished season one. And in the week in between seasons, DC reached out to us, and to me specifically cause I've been writing other things for DC, and said that they wanted to do a comic tying into the series, because everybody over on the publishing side are also big fans.

So they reached out, and I suggested using this story that we tossed around a bit in the writer's room but never really had a place for in season one. But if we wanted to, we could take that story and put it between season one and two, and use that as a bridge. So it's literally right in between.

Season one ends on a Thanksgiving episode. season two starts up in February. So this is sort of the Christmas special we never got to make, now in comic book form, which informs a little of what happens in season two. It doesn't spoil too much stuff. It mainly feels like an extra episode of the TV show that just happens to be on the page, instead of Max or Toonami.

This story deals with a villain who I love. The comic hasn't named him yet, but it's pretty apparent this is an adaptation of one of my favorite underrated Justice League villains, Amazo - he even kinda has the pointed ears. You've adapted a lot of characters already, with more to come. What are the internal guidelines you follow when you're figuring out how you want to take someone from the core DC Universe and bring them into this world?

Yeah, I mean, there's kind of two guidelines. And one is sillier which is just, do I like them? A lot of the characters we feature besides being like, you know, some of them being core Superman characters, a lot of them are just, do we like them? Have I been a longtime fan of them? Like, I love Deathstroke. So, Slade's in the show. We love Task Force X and Amanda Waller, so they're in the show.

And for the comic specifically, looking at it, we wanted to keep the sort of same feel as the show, the same sort of approach to the villains. Because the second, more serious part is, you know, we look at what we feel the core of that villain is. Who is this person? Or who is this creature or thing or robot or whatnot? And what do we best remember them for? And then kind of like fitting them into our universe, where we kind of change them a little bit and modernize them.

The runaway robot at the center of this first issue looks like it escaped from Ivo's lab in episode 4, like it looks like Parasite, it's connected to Ivo. Also on our show, we connected Ivo to Parasite because we thought it'd be really cool to like have this like, techno organic Parasite being created by a Superman villain, but also just like, a horrible DC guy.

That's basically it. Do we like that character? And when we're changing them, do we make sure we still retain the core essence of who that character is? Or deepen the character in some specific way that makes us like them and see a whole new facet to them?

Well, that's actually a perfect bridge to the next thing I want to talk about. I've had the chance to talk to a lot of Superman writers in recent months including Mark Waid and Jason Aaron, and I'll ask you the same question I've asked them. Obviously, this is a new version of Superman in his own world. What do you see as the core immutable traits of Superman that have to be there, in any version of the character?

For Superman, I think the most integral part of him is this drive to help, that Superman is someone who is crazy strong and powerful in so many ways, and instead of using that power to hurt people, he instantly turns around and uses that power to help people. And that, to me, is the core of Superman.

My favorite Superman media - the Donner movies, the New Adventures of Lois and Clark, the Fleischer cartoons - it's all about a man who has the power to destroy the world, and instead decides to save it. That really is Clark for us.

You know, it clicked for me, and that's the Clark you see in the show. It's why, so often in season one, he's like, "I just want to help people. I just want to reach out a hand and help others."

I'll also ask you the same question about Lois Lane, because she's such an integral part of this story. What do you see as her most important core characteristics?

For Lois, oh man, I mean, "spitfire" is the word that I think best encapsulates her. Because you know, I love every version of Lois, but I made everybody watch the Fleischer cartoons, because the Fleischer Lois is jumping in the back of mobster's vans, she's climbing inside robots and stuff to get her story. Like, there's an episode where she straight up pick-pockets Clark to take his press badge so she can get a scoop before him.

And to me, that Lois, who is a go-getter, who doesn't quite understand how to pace herself, who doesn't quite understand the meaning of "No," that is first thing that is important to Lois Lane. And it's why I love Lois and Clark together. I feel like Clark's love and compassion butts up against and compliments Lois' need to get out there and get the story and get the scoop.

She's helping people in her own way, but they're really two sides of the same coin.

So in terms of the comic, you're working with Pablo Collar and Nick Filardi on the art, and it's just beautiful. Like, it's such a perfect adaptation of the show's look with its own personality. I just want to talk about what it's like working with them, and what makes them the perfect art team for this book.

Pablo and Nick are both incredible artists. And we're really, really lucky to have them. I mean, you know, as much as all of us working on the show or influenced by anime growing up, we kind of wanted that to transfer over to the comic and have a little bit of that manga feel. And Pablo was perfect. Some of his first sketches, he went overboard.

He's like, "Okay, I'm applying screen tone. And I'm doing the paneling. Let me know if I should stop." We're like, no, keep going, keep going!

And Nick. You know, we sent Nick some of the episodes to watch and also some of the art in the backgrounds for the color palettes, and he just instantly nailed that look, instantly came in with putting his own little twist on things.

So yeah, so I mean, working with Pablo and Nick has been great, because it's like doing the show again, where here we are, we're taking the Superman thing, and we're putting tiny little twists on it. So it's still recognizable to the show, but also has its own flavor for the comics.

Something that I love about the show and that I love in the comic is, there's always at least one moment that makes me laugh out loud. In the comic, I laughed so hard at the Steve Lombard bit where he doesn't remember Clark, Jimmy, and Lois' names. How do you approach writing those humorous, kind of lighthearted moments that are so integral to both the show and the comic differently when you know the line is going to be said by someone out loud, versus when it's written on the page to really capture that same feel of the character?

You know, a lot of times when you're writing something for the screen, what I usually do and what I have the writers do is, do a table read where we read the lines out loud. Because thing that look great on the page and feel so smart and so clever, when you try to say them out loud, it's just like mush, like it's too many words.

So in a lot of ways it's fun, because what's in the comic is a bit less edited down than the script for recording usually is, where we can go with what looks good on the page. And with the sense of humor, I think timing is everything. So in the recording booth [Superman voice actor] Jack Quaid has amazing comedic timing. And [Jimmy Olsen voice actor] Ishmel Sahid is a comedian, and [Lois Lane voice actor] Alice Lee is so good at getting those comedic moments in.

Then transferring that to the page, Pablo is very good at dividing it up, so you've got those panels to let the joke breathe, and then all of a sudden, now it's funny because he's giving it that pacing that lets you kind of hear it in your head.

Definitely. When I was reading the comic, I could absolutely hear the dialogue in my head in the voices of the actors.

There are a few more issues of the comic coming up. What can you tease us with about what else is coming up, the characters and themes we'll be seeing?

I think much like the show, one of the big themes in this comic is going to be that question of identity, but also very specifically, like, if you were built for one purpose, is that who you are? Or do you have the ability to choose?

In season one we saw a lot of people calling Clark, or Superman specifically, a "Monster." He's an alien, he doesn't belong here. And you know, Clark/Superman tried to sum it up as, you know, it's who we choose to be. Lois and Jimmy's impassioned plea to Metropolis is, you choose who you are. You're not necessarily just what you are, what you're born into or who you're born as. You are the person choosing.

Superman's been going through this, where it really is like nature versus nurture. Is it who you choose to be? Or are sometimes you just built for destruction? Like, can you save everybody? Or is there going to be a hard limit to that?

As for characters, we've got some Task Force X characters coming in, as well as some new characters coming in that Pablo has designed, and they look exactly like they would if we were putting them on screen in the show. Another big Superman villain is coming into this, and we're going to be seeing a lot of Jimmy and Lois, and maybe even a little bit of Ma and Pa as the story goes on toward Christmas - and maybe the destruction of Metropolis.

Something I think may be on the minds of fans is, with this comic taking place between season one and season two, is this a story fans will want to have read before starting My Adventures with Superman season two, or something they'll need to have read?

It's definitely a comic you'll want to have read. We were trying very hard not to spoil anything for season two, but to make this feel complimentary. There are going to be some emotional beats that will make a little bit more sense if you've read the comic. And sort of seeing how, you know, especially Lois has gone from point A at the end of season one to point B at the beginning of season two, there's going to be a little bit more backstory and background about the Kryptonians that will enhance I think what's going on in season two.

But we really wanted to make something that wasn't like, homework. This very much feels like we got an extra episode of the show to bridge the gap between seasons one and two, and here it is.

So I would be remiss if I didn't ask about Supergirl. What can you say about her? Anything at all?

I mean, you saw her in the season two trailer. And I think that's about all I can say!

Fair enough. Fair enough. To wrap up, what do you want to tell fans going into the comic and then into season two of My Adventures with Superman?

If you're looking to pick up this comic because you love our show, then this is absolutely the right comic for you! Because, like I said, it feels like an extra episode. We're getting into the nitty gritty of a lot of Clark's emotional trauma and his relationship with Lois, and that's going to continue into season 2.

And if you've never watched the show, pick up the comic anyhow, because this is going to be a great primer for what our show feels like, and the humor and the action and the drama and the stakes.

Truly, much like our show, this is a comic for everybody. Whatever level of Superman knowledge you may or may not have, you'll definitely be rewarded for reading.

<![CDATA[ Every Spider-Man ever teams up for the "final evolution" of the Spider-Verse saga ]]> Everybody loves the Spider-Verse, at least judging by the popularity of the beloved Spider-Verse films, and the ongoing success of Marvel's Edge of Spider-Verse comics. But now, Marvel Comics is promising the "final evolution" of its Spider-Verse saga with the announcement of Spider-Society, a comic limited series that teams up every Spider-Man ever to take on an equally menacing force of Spidey villains from across the Multiverse.

The four-issue Spider-Society limited series is written by Alex Segura with art from Scott Godlewski. It picks up from the Edge of Spider-Verse titles, which have been introducing new Variants of Spidey from all across the Multiverse (and checking in with a few favorites) for several years. All those Spider-Man Variants and more will come together in Spider-Society to fight the Sinister Squadron, a force of Multiversal villains that takes its name from Spidey's classic enemies the Sinister Six.

Spider-Society #1

Segura is no stranger to the Spider-Verse as the writer of several stories across multiple volumes of the Edge of Spider-Verse comic. As for Godlewski, he's recently been making his name as the artist of Ms. Marvel: Mutant Menace, which catches up with newly christened mutant Kamala Khan in a comic co-written by Iman Vellani, who plays Kamala in the MCU.

"We've had such a blast building toward and teasing SPIDER-SOCIETY in the pages of Web of Spider-Man and Edge of Spider-Verse. I hope readers enjoy the amazing roster of Spider-Heroes we're bringing together to face off a new, but eerily familiar threat," Segura says. "Scott Godlewski's the perfect choice to bring our Spider-Verse adventure to life, and his take on the Spider-Heroes, from Spider-Man 2099 to Spider-Ramen, is spot-on. Readers can expect a wild multiversal ride full of surprises and fun character moments, evoking the Spider-Verse tales they love. August can't come fast enough!"

Spider-Society #1 goes on sale August 14 with a main cover by Pete Woods and a Spider-Gwen variant by Stanley 'Artgerm' Lau, both seen above.

Here's hoping Spider-Society includes some of the weirdest versions of Spider-Man from across the Multiverse.

<![CDATA[ Chris Claremont leads an all-star cast of creators including Alyssa Wong, David Aja, and TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman to celebrate 50 years of Iron Fist ]]> Danny Rand, the original Iron Fist, first hit the scene all the way back in 1974. And to celebrate Iron Fist's 50th anniversary in 2024 Marvel Comics is publishing a special anthology one-shot that brings back several classic Iron Fist creators including writer Chris Claremont and artist David Aja, who provides a variant cover.

Claremont's story features art from Lan Medina, and focuses on a team-up between Iron Fist and Wolverine set way back in Danny Rand's early superhero career. Marvel's announcement doesn't say it, but I'm betting on an appearance by Wolverine's arch-enemy Sabretooth, who first appeared back in 1977's Iron Fist #14, also written by Claremont.

There's also a Heroes for Hire story by writer Frank Tieri and artist Ty Templeton, an Iron Fist/Daughters of the Dragon team-up story by writer Justina Ireland and artist Elena Casagrande, and a story starring the new Iron Fist, Lin Lie, by the writer who gave him his Iron Fist powers, Alyssa Wong, and artist Von Randal.

Marvel is also promising a look ahead at what might be next for Danny Rand in a story by recently named Dazzler writer Jason Loo and classic '90s Marvel artist Whilce Portacio.

Here's a gallery of covers for the issue including the main cover by the legendary Alan Davis, along with a variant by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman (featuring Iron Fist fighting Sabretooth), a 'Hidden Gem' cover which revives some older Marvel art by Howard Chaykin, and of course the aforementioned cover by beloved Immortal Iron Fist artist David Aja:

"Ever since I saw Danny Rand in those green and yellows, I was a fan - not just because we shared a name, but because that look was so iconic!" says Danny Khazem, editor of the Iron Fist 50th Anniversary anthology one-shot. "So to be able to work on this issue with all of these talented creators is a huge honor and pleasure. Danny's story has spanned five decades, but the legacy of the Iron Fist spans MILLIONS of years! And this issue dares to be the next step in not only the future of Danny Rand, but the future of the entire Iron Fist lore! Strap in as this is just the beginning!"

Iron Fist 50th Anniversary Special #1 goes on sale August 14.

Sabretooth may have debuted in Iron Fist, but he tops the list of the best Wolverine villains of all time.

<![CDATA[ Sabrina's enemies take center stage in The Wicked Trinity - a new one-shot which looks like Archie Comics' take on The Craft ]]> The world of Archie Comics has always been a magical place - it is, after all, the home of Sabrina the Teenage Witch - but a new one-shot from the publisher is set to put a darker spin on things. The Wicked Trinity by writer Sam Maggs, artist Lisa Sterle (who we recently interviewed about the brilliant graphic novel Dying Inside), colorist Ellie Wright, and letterer Jack Morelli focuses on Sabrina's nemesis Amber Nightstone and her companions in the titular trinity, Jade Kazane, and Sapphire Gill as they strive to become the most powerful witches in the world.

"I've enjoyed Sam's writing for quite some time, and especially loved the work she did on her short story in last year's Betty: the Final Girl," said Archie's senior director of editorial, Jamie L. Rotante. "She's got a great knack for blending brutality with smart dialogue and fantastical story elements. And I'm always in awe of Lisa Sterle's art, whether it's the gorgeous work she did on a short in 2022's Archie: Love and Heartbreak, or her Modern Witch Tarot, I find myself consistently gobsmacked by her beautiful character designs. This one-shot is the start of a new era of magical storytelling at Archie, and we're excited for even more to come in the future!"

Here's Lisa Sterle's main cover and a variant by Soo Lee.

"Sabrina’s magical nemesis Amber Nightstone and her sidekicks, Jade Kazane and Sapphire Gill, are intent on becoming the most powerful witches in the world. Isolated from so many around them, the three have formed a coven based on their individual needs for vengeance and true freedom. But when there is some dissent among the ranks, their small coven is threatened to be obliterated from within."

<![CDATA[ The return of the Green Goblin is on the horizon in Amazing Spider-Man #50 preview ]]> Amazing Spider-Man #50 is a milestone issue that brings back the Green Goblin, and Marvel is indicating that it is indeed current Gold Goblin Norman Osborn. But even the publisher is hinting that things aren't as simple as a big fall from grace for the reformed villain.

We've got an early preview of pages from Amazing Spider-Man #50 by writer Zeb Wells, artist Ed McGuiness, inker Mark Farmer, colorists Marcio Menyz and Erick Arciniega, and letterer Joe Caramagna, in which Spider-Man deals with a very different kind of crisis - the housing crisis - as he argues over rent and home ownership with Norman Osborn. And oh yeah, something big is going on with the Living Brain, which is shaping up to be an important part of the story.

Spidey and Gobby's brutal fight is one for the ages and you don't want to miss this ending."

Along with the main story by Wells and McGuiness, Amazing Spider-Man #50 also features a story by writer Marv Wolfman and artist Terry Dodson, and more, all rounding out the oversized issue.

Absolute Power #2, the Task Force VII spin-off, and the Waller Origins series are all taking headline spots, but the effects of the event will also be felt in the monthly Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman comics.

But that's not all that's on offer. As Outsiders continues to connect the mainstream DC universe with the much-loved Planetary, another Wildstorm project is also making a comeback with Wonder Woman writer Tom King scripting a new series based on Stormwatch's Jenny Sparks. DC are also looking back to one of the greatest Green Lantern storie of all time with a Zero Hour 30th anniversary special, and launching another new Elseworlds title in DC vs. Vampires: World War V. Plus, fans of Harley Quinn, Catwoman and Poison Ivy won't want to miss the launch of the first new Gotham City Sirens in over a decade! It's another packed month, then... Until next time, happy reading.

I was minding my own business, having a prank war with Two-Face, when some Lady Quark popped up and told me I was threatening reality everywhere. What?

Anyway, Tini Howard (Catwoman) wrote up the details, and Sweeney Boo (Crush & Lobo) and Hayden Sherman (Batman/Superman: World’s Finest) drew them up really pretty with guests like Zatanna, Captain Carrot, and of course, HIM (Batman, silly. Who else?), all helping me try to keep reality together. I just want to leave the Multiverse alone, do my community service, and adore my gal, Poison Ivy. And I’ll do ANYTHING to protect my Earth. Got it? Collects Harley Quinn #28-32 and Knight Terrors: Harley Quinn #1-2.

<![CDATA[ Transformers, Wonder Woman, Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees, and more: The Eisner Award 2024 nominations are here ]]> It's that time again... The full list of this year's Eisner Award nominations has been revealed. More than 150 print and online titles have been nominated in 32 different categories this year, with Image, DC, and Fantagraphics standing out as the publishers with the most nods.

The competition - named for the great cartoonist Will Eisner - is in its 36th year and is voted for by comics biz professionals, with the final decisions made by a judging panel made up of educator Ryan Claytor, writer and art historian N. C. Christopher Couch, educator Andréa Gilroy, writer and publisher Joseph Illidge, comics retailer Mathias Lewis, and writer and librarian Jillian Rudes.

For our money this is a very solid list. We're hearted to see Newsarama favorites like Transformers, Birds of Prey, and Somna getting nods, while the chart-topping Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees is another very well-deserved nominee. We're also very pleased to see Michael Molcher's excellent text on Judge Dredd - I Am the Law: How Judge Dredd Predicted Our Future - get some love, as well as the gorgeous color omnibus of Alan Moore and Ian Gibson's classic The Ballad of Halo Jones.

The winners of the 2024 Eisner Awards will be presented with their trophies at an awards ceremony on the evening of July 26, right in the middle of this year's San Diego Comic Con, so keep an eye out then to see which of your favorites won. Now, to the nominations...

<![CDATA[ Rob Liefeld promises he's retiring from Deadpool for real this time, but not before teaming him up with some incredibly obscure Marvel characters ]]> Rob Liefeld is returning to his most famous co-creation, Deadpool, for one last go round this summer, and he's keying in on the vibes of the Merc With a Mouth's big MCU movie debut Deadpool & Wolverine by paring up Wade Wilson with a different Marvel character in each of Deadpool Team-Up's five issues.

Wolverine will be along for the ride, naturally, as will Liefeld's recent creation Major X. Then there's Gwen Stacy/Ghost Spider, the Hulk, and even cult-favorite early '80s hero Crystar, the Crystal Warrior. They'll all come together with Deadpool due to the return of a "forgotten Marvel character," which, honestly, also describes Crystar.

If you've never heard of Crystar, you may have seen some of the short-lived '80s toy tie-in hero's cover art, since death punk pioneer Danzig used a skull drawn by Michael Golden on the cover of Crystar #8 for the cover of his first album, and his primary logo.

You can see Crystar on Liefeld's main cover, he's got a blue crystalline body and a red crown and trunks. Liefeld also provides a foil variant for Deadpool Team-Up #1, seen further down.

"Rob Liefeld is finishing his work on Deadpool with his final blockbuster story in DEADPOOL TEAM-UP, a five-issue series launching in August. No one captures the Merc with the Mouth’s lovable insanity like Liefeld does, and in classic Deadpool fashion, Wade is holding nothing back in this latest round of unbridled action and high-stakes adventure," reads Marvel's announcement.

"In addition to featuring Deadpool's supporting cast—from his fan-favorite allies to deadly enemies and everyone in between—DEADPOOL TEAM-UP also sees Wade assemble a crew that’s wild even by his standards!"

Liefeld is vowing to retire from Deadpool following the conclusion of Deadpool Team-Up. But Kiss retired too, and so did the Rolling Stones. Sometimes rockstars have a way of returning to their greatest hits, so we'll see.

"Everyone has that one comic with that obscure character that they always wanted more of. l, myself, have several of these and I pulled them from relative obscurity from the deepest corners of the Marvel Universe and placed them next to Deadpool, right at the center of an all new, cataclysmic adventure!" Liefeld told ComicBook, who initially broke the news.

"This is some wonderfully weird stuff and I'm so excited to share it with the world. I promise you some familiar Marvel faces and take them to brand new places. Deadpool Team-Up is the most fun I've had in years! I'd like to thank CB Cebulski and Mark Basso for making this a great experience!"

Deadpool Team-Up #1 goes on sale August 28.

Check out the best Deadpool stories of all time.
